parseRpcResult copied the "result" node out of the parsed reply,
because indexing the JSON object yields an lvalue reference. On large
replies - full transaction lists, unspent-note sets - that duplicated
the entire subtree for no reason, and it also meant a secret-bearing
result then existed in two trees at once.
- The result node is now moved out of the parse tree instead of
copied, so the secret lives only in the returned value that the
calling code already wipes. The leftover result slot is moved-from
(null), so the existing secret-scrub of the discarded tree still
runs harmlessly.

The RPC worker loop only caught std::exception. A task that threw
anything else - a non-std exception propagating out of a posted job -
escaped the loop and tore down the worker thread, so every later RPC
silently went unanswered.
- The worker loop now also has a catch-all that swallows non-std
throws and keeps the thread running. Such a job still loses its
main-thread callback, exactly as the std::exception path already
did; the only change is that the worker survives.
- RPCClient's connected_ and warming_up_ flags are now atomic. They
are read from the UI thread while the worker updates them, so the
plain bools were a data race.

A rescan or key import holds the node's cs_main for the whole wallet
scan. On the shared clients it hit the 30 s curl timeout, reported a
failure that wasn't one, abandoned a daemon RPC slot and flipped the app
into "node busy".
- One long wallet RPC at a time (rescan, importprivkey, importaddress,
importwallet, z_importkey, z_importviewingkey, z_importwallet) runs on
its own ungated client with no client timeout (rpc/long_call_lane.h).
It can be aborted from any thread, and an abort is never lost, even
one that lands before the client opens.
- The GUI rescan, key import and sweep use it. The sweep's fund-moving
body is unchanged; only the client it calls differs. runtimeRescan()
returns bool, and a refused post-bootstrap reconcile stays armed.
- The console routes rescan and the import commands through the lane;
its input stays usable meanwhile, and a refusal is printed like any
other result. RPCClient gains callRaw(.., timeoutSec).
- Restart, wallet switch, delete-chain, bootstrap (now also from
Settings) and the other node-stopping flows are refused while it runs,
with a message saying a key import or rescan is still running; quit
asks for confirmation. The lane is aborted at quit.
- A second import or rescan is refused before the key is copied anywhere.
An import cut off after the request reached the node (a lost reply,
or a proxy's 502/504 while the node still imports) says the key may
already be in the wallet and to run Settings -> Rescan. Only the
node's own HTTP-layer refusals (401, 503, work queue full, unhandled
request) say that the key was not imported. A pure
classifyLongCallCutOff() makes that choice.
- New strings in all 8 languages; console results stay English.
Tests: the long-method list and the console's routing; one lane at a
time; an abort lands whether it comes before the client opens or during
the call; a call with no client timeout outlasts a 3 s scan, where a 1 s
gated client times out and marks the node busy; classifyLongCallCutOff()
for every failure kind with and without a sent request, and from raw
HTTP replies (502, 504, a plain 500 -> cut off; 401, 503, queue full,
unhandled -> refused).

The Core poll ran z_gettotalbalance twice (minconf 0 and 1), each a whole-
wallet scan under dragonxd's cs_main. The spendable (minconf=1) call now
runs only after the display call succeeded, and only when something is
unconfirmed or pending or the exact total moved: about 95% of polls make
one scan instead of two. A forced post-send balance can no longer be lost
to a refused enqueue, and pending-send debits aren't re-applied each tick.
z_getoperationstatus is filtered to our opids with its real argument form
([[id,...]]; the old ["id"] was rejected), falling back to the unfiltered
call if a daemon refuses the filter. The Shield/Merge dialog's own polls
are filtered and session-guarded too, and finally reach Done; the dead
RPCClient wrappers are deleted.
The Merge/Consolidate scope scan becomes a tested state machine: one scan
at a time, failures latch behind a Retry button, only "node not ready"
retries by itself (10/30/60 s, at most 3), Lite never scans. Its 120 s
calls are maintenance calls: every main-thread disconnect aborts one in
flight first, so a lifecycle action no longer freezes the UI behind it.
An aborted merge that was already sent says it may still go through.

dragonxd serves RPC with 8 workers and a 16-deep queue. While a witness
rebuild holds cs_main, every request needing it waits, and a request the
client gave up on keeps its slot. The GUI kept polling and re-probing
until all 24 slots were its own abandoned requests (even stop was then
refused), treated the busy node as lost (tearing down the wallet state),
and retried connect at frame rate on some pages.
Busy gate (src/rpc/rpc_busy_gate.h), enforced in RPCClient::performCall
for the shared rpc_ / fast_rpc_:
- the first reply timeout or queue-full refusal marks the node busy;
from then on nothing needing cs_main is sent (calls fail at once with
the new RpcFailureKind::Deferred). stop, help and getrescaninfo are
lock-free in dragonxd and always go through
- one canary getinfo with no client timeout waits on its own client and
thread; its answer clears the gate and triggers an immediate refresh
(queue-full: retried after 2..30 s; no answer: back to normal handling)
- the timer dispatch skips Core/Tx/Addresses/Peers/chat/mining/opid and
connect attempts while busy
- the 3-strike teardown counts only failures that put the connection in
doubt, never busy ones; no balance scans follow a busy chain-info call
Reconnect storm: retries were armed with setTimer(Core, kCoreDefault - 1),
i.e. "4 s elapsed", which against Overview's 2 s interval meant every
frame. RefreshScheduler::deferFor() is an absolute hold, and
ConnectRetryBackoff picks the delay by failure kind (not listening
1/2/5 s, queue full 2..30 s, busy 30 s, else 4 s).
Measured against the fake daemon: abandoned requests during a rebuild
went from ~24 (every slot) to at most 2, with no teardown and recovery
when the rebuild ends; a saturated queue sees about one canary per
back-off step instead of ~190 requests/s.

Closing the wallet sent "stop" at most twice, gated on a getinfo probe
that needs the daemon's cs_main, then killed the node after 20 s (Windows)
or 30 s (POSIX) whether or not stop had arrived. A node busy with an
hour-long witness rebuild therefore never got stop, was killed mid-
rebuild, and replayed everything since its last flush on every start.
Delivery (src/daemon/stop_delivery.h, RPCClient::open/trySendStop):
- stop goes over a dedicated client with no probe, so it never waits on
rpc_'s lock or a cs_main-bound getinfo
- every attempt is classified, and StopDeliveryPolicy decides the next:
Accepted / 503 = delivered; Queued (reply timeout) is resent at most
every 30 s; QueueFull / not listening are retried every 1.5 s; a
refusal after we were heard means the node is shutting down; a 401 on
our own node tries the next credential source
- POSIX: a group SIGTERM goes out as soon as an attempt fails, which
bypasses the HTTP queue entirely
Waiting (DaemonController::executeDaemonStop, pure, virtual-clock
tested):
- never kills on its own. Quitting waits as long as the node needs; the
shutdown screen offers "Close wallet — leave node running" after 3 s,
and "Kill node (unsafe)" (confirmed) only once stop was delivered and
the node showed no CPU/I-O progress for ~10 min outside a rebuild
- other callers (restart, rescan, reinstall, switch, ...) wait up to
120 s, let go once the app starts quitting, and keep watching a node
that is still running; wallet switch refuses to go ahead then
- EmbeddedDaemon gains stop-session primitives (beginStop,
pollOwnedProcess, signalGracefulStop, forceKillOwnedProcess,
ownedResourceUsage over the Linux process group / Windows handle,
endStop) and only one stop session runs at a time
- the Force Quit button and its stall heuristic are gone; "Leave
running" aborts a pending stop attempt and closes at once
Verified against the fake daemon with the real GUI: closing mid-rebuild
now delivers stop (or SIGTERM 2 ms after a queue-full refusal) and the
node exits cleanly after its rebuild, where it was SIGKILLed before. The
shutdown screen, its "Leave running" button and the idle Kill offer
(after ~11 min) were checked by screenshot. New strings are English-
only for now.

Every caller guessed what went wrong from what(): "Timeout" meant busy,
"401" meant auth, and warmup was code -28 or one of six substrings. A
non-JSON HTTP 500 lost its body, so "Work queue depth exceeded" read as a
bare "HTTP 500", and libcurl reports connect- and reply-phase timeouts
with the same code.
New header-only src/rpc/rpc_failure.h:
- RpcFailureKind (NotListening, ConnectTimeout, ReplyTimeout, QueueFull,
ShuttingDown, Unhandled, Auth, Warmup, AppError, Aborted, Other) and a
pure classifyRpcFailure(curl code, request-sent, HTTP status, JSON-RPC
code, plain-text body)
- formatHttpError keeps a short, printable plain-text body
- RpcError (moved here) stays "the daemon answered with a JSON-RPC
error". The new RpcTransportError means "no JSON-RPC answer": curl
failures and HTTP-layer refusals (401, 503, queue full, unhandled).
Keeping them separate matters: callers catch RpcError to mean "the
daemon said no" (chat identity's no-mnemonic fallback, seed export),
so a timeout must not be one. They now treat a queue-full 500 as
transient rather than as "no".
RPCClient:
- performCall tells the two timeouts apart with CURLINFO_REQUEST_SIZE
(0 = never reached the daemon; reset on every transfer, checked on
libcurl 7.81), and callRaw now shares performCall and the HTTP-failure
path.
- connect() decides warmup by the -28 code only, so a plain-text body
saying "Loading" can't pass for warmup, and records
getLastConnectFailureKind().
- "Connection failed" names the kind and is logged once, then every
100th repeat (one incident logged it 60k times).
- secret-bearing calls never echo a response body.
tryConnect's "401"/"Timeout" checks now use the kind, and
CoreRefreshResult carries blockchainErrKind/balanceErrKind for the busy
handling to come.

Two verified medium leaks in the B7 scrub chain:
- parseRpcResult parses the body into a local `response` tree and returns a COPY
of response["result"] (operator[] yields an lvalue ref, so the by-value return
copy-constructs). The local tree — holding its own heap copy of the secret — was
then freed without zeroing, so callSecret/callSecretString still left one
un-scrubbed copy. Add scrubJsonSecrets() (recursive string zero) and a
scrubSource flag; the secret paths opt in, wiping the tree before it frees. The
secret export chain is now fully covered: raw body → parse tree → result copy →
caller-owned string.
- key_export_dialog cleared s_key with plain std::string::clear() on the Close
button, the scrim/Esc dismiss path, and the QR cache (s_qr_cached) — leaving the
displayed private/spending key in freed heap on the ordinary close paths. Route
all three through wallet::secureWipeLiteSecret (zero-then-clear), matching
show()/hide().

Four confirmed findings from the review pass:
SECURITY — B7 was incomplete:
- The single-key Export dialog (key_export_dialog) still used plain call() for
z_exportkey/dumpprivkey/z_exportviewingkey — a live spending-key leak on the
most common per-address export path, missed by the B7 commit.
- callSecret() zeros the raw body but the parsed json holds its OWN heap copy of
the secret; several callers did .get<string>() on a temporary json and freed
that copy un-wiped.
Fix: add RPCClient::callSecretString() — returns the bare-string result with
BOTH the raw body AND the json node zeroed, so callers can't forget. Route
key_export_dialog (×2), exportPrivateKey, and export_all_keys (×2) through it;
scrub the z_exportmnemonic json node in seed_wallet_creator (object result);
also wipe the transient key copies, the displayed s_key on reset, and the
aggregated export-all `keys` buffer.
CHAT:
- Jump-to-latest pill: SetCursorScreenPos moved the parent cursor and never
restored it, so the composer footer rendered ~8px too high while scrolled up.
Save + restore the cursor around the pill.
- New-message toast: gating on a chatUnreadCount() watermark delta could be
swallowed when an outgoing echo (wall-clock) pushed the seen-watermark past a
later reply's block time. ingest() now reports the cids it appended; the toast
fires when any is a non-muted conversation — skew-proof, still mute-aware.

The secret exports (z_exportmnemonic / z_exportkey / dumpprivkey) already scrub
the parsed value at the call site, but the raw HTTP response string those RPCs
build — the curl write buffer, which holds the same secret in the clear — was
freed without zeroing. That's the "fuller fix belongs in the RPC layer" the
identity-fetch comment flagged.
Add RPCClient::callSecret(), a call() variant that sodium_memzeros the raw
response body after parsing (on success and on throw). NRVO makes the returned
string the very buffer curl wrote into, so one wipe covers it. Route every
secret-bearing export through it: chat identity (mnemonic + z_exportkey
fallback), Settings seed-phrase + single-key export, Export-all-keys, and the
migrate-to-seed isolated-node mnemonic export. Purely additive — the parsed
result is byte-identical, so no behavior change (safe for the fund-critical
migrate path).

Six behavior-preserving consolidations from the audit:
- RPCClient::call() overloads share a private performCall() (payload dump +
curl_easy_perform + http code) and a static parseRpcResult() (error->RpcError
extraction). The timeout overload restores the prior timeout in both the
success and catch paths, exactly as before.
- The six UnifiedCallback methods delegate to one splitUnified() that builds
the (Callback, ErrorCallback) pair once (null-check preserved).
- One liteTrimCopy() in lite_connection_service replaces 5 file-local
trim-copy helpers across the lite slice.
- lite_wallet_controller's inline height JSON parse now routes through the
tested parseLiteHeightResponse().
- theme_effects.cpp: unpackRGB()/scaledAlpha() replace 14 RGB-unpack + 5
alpha-scale copy-paste blocks.
- settings.cpp load() uses loadScalar()/loadClamped() helpers for ~44 scalar
fields. Besides removing boilerplate this HARDENS loading: ~44 fields that
previously only checked contains() now also verify the JSON type, so a
malformed value in settings.json falls back to the default instead of
throwing/misreading. Custom cases (enum parses, legacy migrations, arrays)
stay inline; save() is unchanged.
Full-node + Lite build clean; ctest 1/1; hygiene clean.

stop()-ing a worker that is mid curl_easy_perform joined on the UI thread, so a
slow/hung transfer froze the UI until the request timeout. Add RPCClient::
requestAbort() (a thread-safe atomic read by a curl progress callback that aborts
the transfer), and call it before stopping the workers on disconnect
(onDisconnected) and shutdown (beginShutdown + the synchronous fallback). The
flag is cleared on each connect() so a fresh connection never starts aborted.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The connection state machine never tore down on a lost connection: refresh-loop
RPC errors were swallowed, rpc_->isConnected() stayed true after a daemon
crash/restart/socket drop, and the UI showed stale balances with no reconnect.
Several operations also ran synchronous curl straight from ImGui handlers.
- Add handleLostConnection(): after N consecutive cycles where BOTH core RPCs
fail (warmup excluded, so no reconnect loop), disconnect so update()'s
reconnect branch re-enters tryConnect().
- Move banPeer/unbanPeer/clearBans and key export/import onto the worker thread
(import requests a rescan that could freeze the UI for the curl timeout).
- Run the block-info dialog's two chained RPCs on the worker thread (+ guard the
getblockhash result type).
- Detect daemon warmup via the JSON-RPC -28 code (new RpcError carrying the code;
message text preserved so 401/warmup string-matching is unaffected), and widen
CONNECTTIMEOUT to 10s for remote/TLS hosts (2s localhost).

Add an encrypted SQLite transaction history cache with cached tip metadata and
per-address shielded scan progress so startup and full refreshes avoid
re-scanning every z-address while still invalidating on wallet/address/rescan
changes.
Improve wallet history loading by paging transparent transactions, preserving
cached shielded and sent rows, keeping recent/unconfirmed activity visible, and
classifying mining-address receives. Show z_sendmany opid sends immediately in
History and Overview, pin pending rows through refreshes, and apply optimistic
address/balance debits until opids resolve.
Add timestamped RPC console tracing by source/method without logging params or
results, reduce redundant refresh/RPC calls, and cache Explorer recent block
summaries in SQLite.
Expand focused tests for transaction cache encryption, scan-progress
persistence/invalidation, history preservation, operation-status parsing,
pending send visibility, and Explorer/RPC refresh behavior.
Instead of blocking the entire UI with "Activating best chain..." until
the daemon finishes warmup, treat warmup responses as a successful
connection. The wallet now:
- Sets connected=true + warming_up=true when daemon returns RPC -28
- Shows warmup status with block progress in the loading overlay
- Polls getinfo every few seconds to detect warmup completion
- Allows Console, Peers, Settings tabs during warmup
- Shows orange status indicator with warmup message in status bar
- Skips balance/tx/address refresh until warmup completes
- Triggers full data refresh once daemon is ready
Also: fix curl handle/header leak on reconnect, fill in empty
externalDetected error branch, bump version to v1.2.0 in build scripts.
Diagnostics & logging:
- add verbose logging system (VERBOSE_LOGF) with toggle in Settings
- forward app-level log messages to Console tab for in-UI visibility
- add detailed connection attempt logging (attempt #, daemon state,
config paths, auth failures, port owner identification)
- detect HTTP 401 auth failures and show actionable error messages
- identify port owner process (PID + name) on both Linux and Windows
- demote noisy acrylic/shader traces from DEBUG_LOGF to VERBOSE_LOGF
- persist verbose_logging preference in settings.json
- link iphlpapi on Windows for GetExtendedTcpTable
Security & encryption:
- update local encryption state immediately after encryptwallet RPC
so Settings reflects the change before daemon restarts
- show notifications for encrypt success/failure and PIN skip
- use dedicated RPC client for z_importwallet during decrypt flow
to avoid blocking main rpc_ curl_mutex (which starved peer/tx refresh)
- force full state refresh (addresses, transactions, peers) after
successful wallet import
Network tab:
- redesign peers refresh button as glass-panel with icon + label,
matching the mining button style
- add spinning arc animation while peer data is loading
(peer_refresh_in_progress_ atomic flag set/cleared in refreshPeerInfo)
- prevent double-click spam during refresh
- add refresh-button size to ui.toml
Other:
- use fast_rpc_ for rescan polling to avoid blocking on main rpc_
- enable DRAGONX_DEBUG in all build configs (was debug-only)
- setup.sh: pull latest xmrig-hac when repo already exists
RPC client:
- Add call() overload with per-call timeout parameter
- z_exportwallet uses 300s, z_importwallet uses 1200s timeout
Decrypt wallet (app_security.cpp, app.cpp):
- Show per-step and overall elapsed timers during decrypt flow
- Reduce dialog to 5 steps; close before key import begins
- Run z_importwallet on detached background thread
- Add pulsing "Importing keys..." status bar indicator
- Report success/failure via notifications instead of dialog
RPC caching (app_network.cpp, app.h):
- Cache z_viewtransaction results in viewtx_cache_ across refresh cycles
- Skip RPC calls for already-cached txids (biggest perf win)
- Build confirmed_tx_cache_ for deeply-confirmed transactions
- Clear all caches on disconnect
- Remove unused refreshTransactions() dead code
Peers (app_network.cpp, peers_tab.cpp):
- Route refreshPeerInfo() through fast_worker_ to avoid head-of-line blocking
- Replace footer "Refresh Peers" button with ICON_MD_REFRESH in toggle header
- Refresh button triggers both peer list and full blockchain data refresh
Mining (mining_tab.cpp):
- Allow pool mining toggle when blockchain is not synced
- Pool mining only needs xmrig, not local daemon sync
Full-node GUI wallet for DragonX cryptocurrency.
Built with Dear ImGui, SDL3, and OpenGL3/DX11.
Features:
